DC Bilingual has an immediate opening for a part-time a School Crossing Guard who will monitor and maintain student safety in crosswalks and street intersections.
Schedule
- 2, 2-hour shifts per day
- MORNING: Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 9:00 am
- AFTERNOON: Monday-Thursday 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm and Friday 12:00 pm -2:00 pm.
Qualifications
- Must be physically able to stand for long periods in extremes of heat and cold
- Must have good vision, hearing, and mobility
- Sense of responsibility for the safety of students and their families
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population, and commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service are required.
- High school diploma or GED required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college preferred
- Adhere to the No Nonsense Nurture expectations for managing student relations and behaviors
- Meet all expectations as outlined by the DC Bilingual Leading and Learning Framework
- Abide by the DC Bilingual’s Super 7 Agreements, Community Engagement Principles, and Code
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required
Primary Responsibilities: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed in this position. It is not, however, a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required.
- Direct or escort families crossing the the street and school driveway on the sidewalk, stopping traffic as necessary; guide or control vehicular or family traffic at street; monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which families can cross the street.
- Direct students to assure conformance to traffic regulations
- Report traffic hazards and flagrant traffic violations to leadership using a provided two-way radio
- Must wear provided traffic safety and control gear and work requires employees to stand, walk and use arm/hand signals, whistles, and voice
- Obey traffic flow and conditions
- Wait for natural breaks, or create effective breaks, in traffic to move pedestrians safely to/from the school and their mode of transportation
- Communicate traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and adults
- Other duties as assigned
